E-mail Back to my Homepage kristeesmith@stewart.k12.tn.us Phone 931-232-5179 ext. 164 Dear Parents: Welcome Back! I am looking forward to another excellent school year! My name is Kristee B. Smith and I teach sophomore and junior English at SCHS! I would like to take this opportunity to share some information about myself as well as to give you some contact information should you need to reach me at any time. While I do work here in Dover, I reside in Trigg County (Cadiz, KY). This will be my 5th year to teach here in Stewart Co. and I look forward to being here for many more years. I have an A.A., B.A., and an M.A. All of my degrees are in the field of English because I want to be the best that I can be for the students that I teach and because I absolutely love the subject. This will also be my 5th year as a softball coach for the Lady Rebels. And I will also be enjoying my 2nd year as a Co-Sponsor for Student Council. I have a seventeen year old son, so I not only work with teenagers all day long, I also live with one. I understand the conflicts, pressures and expectations of today’s young adults and strive to be not only a good example, but also a mentor. One of the most important aspects of my job (in my opinion) is to teach the students to become self-motivated, self-sufficient, respectful adults. And, yes, there are times when we have to put English aside to simply talk about what is going on in our lives! I believe in creating a classroom environment that involves appreciating differences and showing consideration for one another on a daily basis. My classroom should be a safe place for students to learn and grow, so I strive to make each student feel welcome every day, not just at the outset of school. I like to call parents! And please don’t be concerned if you see my name on the Caller I.D. Sometimes I simply want to call to let you know what a great job the students are doing or to let you know what is going on in the classroom. Being a parent, I know that we are sometimes left in the dark if we do not conduct an interrogation. Likewise, if you should be concerned about your child at any time, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail me. I am probably more accessible through e-mail since we do not often have time to talk on the phone unless the call comes during planning period. My planning period is from 1:00 until 2:45 should you need to call me during school hours. I welcome your calls, e-mails and concerns and expect you to be a large part of your child’s education. I believe that if we work together, your child will get the education and support that he/she deserves. Parent, teacher, and student collaboration has proven effective for many years, so let’s utilize the opportunity to be a team and make your child’s school experience positive, successful and valuable to his/her future.
Respectfully, Kristee B. Smith
